πŸ“– How it works

πŸ§‘β€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘ Player cards

  • The big number is everything you have together: ISAs, savings, crypto and pensions. Underneath: how much it moved today.
  • Since start: growth since you joined the race, with money you paid in left out (so saving more doesn't count as "returns").
  • Target: how far along to your target (e.g. Β£1M). Schedule: ahead or behind a smooth path from where you started to your target date.
  • Β£1M by: when you'd get there if you keep saving your monthly minimum and the accounts grow at the rates in Admin.
  • vs age / vs UK: how your pension and investments compare with people your age (ONS figures), and your salary with UK taxpayers (HMRC). Shown as "top x%".
  • More stats: days you've led the race, how much of your gain came from markets vs your own saving, your risk style (low = cautious, high = adventurous) and your asset mix.
  • Ribbons under your name are titles you hold right now (e.g. πŸ’ͺ Saving champion, πŸš€ Momentum). πŸ‘‘ on a photo = this month's crown race leader. Medals at the bottom are badges you've earned - tap them for the trophy cabinet.
  • πŸ‘ at the top hides all Β£ amounts (percentages stay) - handy in public.

πŸ’ž Together

  • Your combined total, today's move and growth since the start.
  • The split bar: each person's share of the combined total, and how far you are towards your combined target.
  • vs age: your combined savings and investments (not pensions) against households of your ages.
  • Net worth incl. home: investments plus home equity (house value minus what's left on the mortgage).

🏁 The track

  • Each bar is a person's progress to their target. The β”‚ line shows where you'd be "on schedule" today; the 🏁 date is the projected finish.
  • Tap the card for race history.

πŸ“ˆ Race history

  • Both totals over time. Pick a range (1 day to all time); hover or tap the chart for exact values, or show it as a table.
  • "Growth only" in the summary leaves out money paid in, so it shows what markets and interest did.

πŸ’ͺ Monthly saving

  • Measured payday to payday: what you put into ISAs, savings and crypto (not pensions or employer money) against your own monthly minimum.
  • The lines show how this month's money moved your Β£1M date, the date itself, and what an extra Β£500 a month would do.
  • Month badges (January–December): πŸ† hit your minimum Β· 🌱 some money in (the ring shows how much) Β· πŸ’€ nothing in Β· πŸ”» more out than in Β· ⏳ this month so far Β· 🎁 a bonus month. Tap one to see where the money went, account by account.
  • πŸ”₯ Streak: months in a row you hit your minimum. Hitting it sets off confetti, and the other person sees a message.

πŸ‘‘ Crown race

A monthly points race that moves the crown. Tap the crown on a photo to see it. Its own guide: .

🏠 Mortgage-free mission

  • The big date is your mortgage-free goal; the chip says whether you're on course, early or late. "On current pace" uses your normal payment plus the overpayments you've logged.
  • Left to pay is estimated between statements (payments and interest), and exact whenever you enter a statement balance in Admin.
  • The cards show what you've overpaid, what's needed to hit the goal, the yearly penalty-free overpayment allowance and interest saved; the chart compares your path with the lender's schedule.
  • LTV / equity come from the house value you enter (once a year is plenty).

🏦 Accounts

  • Every account, biggest first. Tap one for its holdings (with logos) where available.
  • LIVE: updates itself (Trading212, Kraken, coin prices). MANUAL: you enter the value in Admin. EST.: estimated between statements from your contributions and an assumed growth rate. UPDATE DUE: no real figure for a while. PAUSED: Kraken briefly paused us - the last value is shown and it retries by itself. ERROR: something needs a look in Admin β†’ Live sync.

πŸ† Trophies

  • Badges are earned once and kept forever: milestones (Β£10K… Β£1M), returns, being ahead of schedule, taking the lead, a big day, maxing your ISA, employer money, saving Β£10K+ yourself, and investing the bigger share of a bonus.
  • A β˜… marks who got there first. New badges jiggle and burst confetti the first time you see them.

Everything is a projection or a fun comparison to keep you motivated - not financial advice.

πŸ‘‘ How the crown race works

The idea

A new race every calendar month. Points restart at 0–0 on the 1st, and whoever has the most points wears the crown on their photo - so it can change hands during the month. At the end of the month, the leader wins that month's crown.

Fair, whatever the pot size

Everything is measured in percentages or against your own targets, never in pounds. A bigger pot or a bigger salary doesn't win by itself - saving hard and investing well does.

How points are scored

  • πŸ’ͺ Saving rate Β· 3 pts - the share of your gross monthly salary you put into ISAs, savings and crypto during this calendar month.
  • 🎯 Own minimum Β· 3 pts - how much of your own monthly minimum you put in during this calendar month (e.g. 120% beats 95%).
  • πŸ“ˆ Investment growth Β· 2 pts - how much your investments grew this month, pensions and new money left out.
  • πŸͺ™ Crypto return Β· 2 pts - your crypto's growth this month, new money left out.
  • πŸ›‘οΈ ISA return Β· 2 pts - your ISAs' growth this month, new money left out.
  • 🎁 Bonus invested Β· 2 pts - the share of your latest bonus you invested. Only in a month when one of you got a bonus, once you've both had one in the last year.

Each category goes to whoever's ahead in it. A draw splits the points. A category only counts when you both have something to compare - otherwise it's greyed out with a hint (e.g. "add both salaries").

Effort (saving) is worth more than markets (3 vs 2 points), so a great saving month can beat a lucky market month.

What you win

  • πŸ‘‘ The crown on your photo while you lead - with the steal animation when it changes hands.
  • The month's crown: saved in the year tally (e.g. "2026 crowns Β· πŸ‘‘ 3 vs πŸ‘‘ 4"), with a chip for each month.
  • πŸ”” Bragging rights: if notifications are on, you both get a ping when the crown moves, plus a "last day" reminder.
  • 🎁 Bonus Champion badge for investing the bigger share of a bonus.

How to steal the crown

  • Pay in early and beat your own minimum - that's 3 points you fully control.
  • Invest a bigger share of your pay (or of a bonus) than the other person.
  • The market points are partly luck - but they move daily, so the lead can swing right up to the last day. πŸ”₯

Tip: tap the other person's photo on the dashboard to see the steal animation just for fun.

πŸ–οΈ How the Freedom planner works

What it answers

"When could we stop working, and how much could we spend each month?" It takes your pots today, keeps adding what you save each month until you stop, grows everything at the rates set in Admin, then spends it down year by year until age 95.

Today's money vs future pounds

Prices rise over time (we assume 2.5% a year), so Β£1 in 2050 buys less than Β£1 today.

  • Today's money (the default) shows everything as what it would buy today. "Β£3,000 a month" means the lifestyle Β£3,000 gives you now. This is the honest way to judge a plan.
  • Future pounds shows the actual numbers you'd see on statements or paid into your account in that year. They're bigger, but they buy the same.

Example: Β£394K left at 95 in today's money β‰ˆ Β£1.35M on the statement in 2076. Same buying power.

Where the money comes from

  • ISAs, savings and crypto: spend any time, tax-free. They "bridge" you if you stop before 57. Slow-growing pots (cash, crypto) are used first.
  • Pensions: unlock at 57. Each withdrawal is 25% tax-free and the rest taxed like a salary. The planner uses them before ISAs.
  • State pension: from 68, about Β£12.5K a year each at today's full rate.
  • Mortgage: once it's paid off, you need that much less each month.

The tiles

The earliest age (or year, for Together) at which your chosen retirement income lasts to 95 on a straight-line projection. Tap a name to open the plan and try other ages with the slider.

🎲 Market-tested

Real markets go up and down. We replay your plan through 400 bumpy market paths with the same average growth. βœ… Robust = lasts in 85%+ of them, 🟑 Fair = 60–85%, ⚠️ Coin-flip = under 60%. The 85%-safe age is the earliest age that works in 85% of paths: a good one to aim for.

πŸ“ˆ The chart

Your total money over time: β–  ISAs & savings on top of β–  pensions. The grey shading is the range between good and bad markets. Icons mark the big moments; tap any year for the details.

The comparison gauge

Compares what you could spend (not counting the mortgage) with the UK Retirement Living Standards 2026: Minimum, Moderate and Comfortable. β˜… and ✦ are your own "comfortable" and "dream" levels from Admin. Also shows it as a % of your take-home pay today; about two-thirds usually feels like no drop.

🎁 Bonuses

Your usual bonus never changes the main figures (it isn't guaranteed). It only shows as a separate "with your usual bonus" line.

Good to know

  • It's a projection to plan with, not financial advice.
  • Tax uses today's England bands; rules and the state pension age can change.
  • Change the numbers in Admin β†’ Targets: retirement income, state pension forecast, inflation, and how long the money must last.
